At the bottom of note 977176 it says:

"As of ECC600 Enhancement Package 2, transaction IE4N allows you to explicitly assign the measuring

points using a dialog (for example, in transactions IE01 and IE02)"

Does this meen that it is possible to setup IE4N to show a dialog for assigning measuringpoint during installation or what?

If so - please tell me where and how to configure this.

Hi all,

I am working with SAP as a Retail consultant over a year now. Meanwhile, I came to know about SAP for Aerospace and Defense. The moment I saw that, I started learning more about this. It seems that my interest is very much towards this module of SAP and would like to know more about few important points before I proceed further.

I live in India and searched over the career prospects within and outside the country. Well, the location is no issue at all. I want to progress with SAP for Aerospace and Defense and would like to know:

  • How much on the scale of 1-5, has this (module) globally evolved at present?
  • Next, the career prospects: present + future
  • The Certification/Training/Learning/Research in this
  • The scope of SAP Aerospace consultants in present market and their demand worldwide
  • Any domain experience required with Aerospace or we can start over initially as well (I have SAP ABAP and SAP Retail module knowledge)

You may highlight any other significant point (if required).

Would be very thankful to you.

Regards,

Swapnil

The first aircraft which can order its replacement part and maintenance crew automatically before it arrives at it final destination

I attended the SAPPHIRE NOW keynote session from Steve Singh, CEO of Concur, and member of the SAP Global Managing Board. He included some compelling use cases in his session to illustrate how business networks give customers a competitve edge in delivering their promise to customers in today´s digital economy.

Here is the scenario I most liked because it helped me to better understand the value of connected business networks particular in the aerospace industry. This is what he presented as a use case:

Airplanes today are being built with many sensors monitoring and reporting on critical parts conditions for maintenance purpose. Let´s assume a large aircraft manufacturer has connected these sensors to the Ariba Busines Network.

13-05-2015 13-26-56.png

Image 1: Aircraft notifies the network that a part needs replacement

When a part needs to be serviced or replaced, the operating airline of this aircraft automatically notifies the network to schedule maintenance or replacement services within a relatively timeframe.

13-05-2015 13-14-33.png

Image 2: The Ariba network procures the part

The business network determines the ideal time and location for this repair. Then through the Ariba network the parts gets procured and deliverd to a predetermined location at a predetermined time. The Ariba network connects to the Fieldglass newtork and recommends a specialist team that is best suited to install that replacement part and coordinates to have that team there at the right time and location.

13-05-2015 13-01-02.png

Image 3: Via the Fieldglass and Concur network all travel and staffing requirements can be managed automatically

In fact that would then connect to the Concur network to book travel and to follow expenses on behalf of that repair team. And because that airline manufacturer is running SAP, the maintenance and financial systems get automatically updated.

Different parts of the ecosystem are being prompted into action through the network automatically - that´s the value of connected business networks.

For Aerospace and Defense Companies, It’s All About the Software

$

There’s nothing simple about the aerospace and defense industries, but that doesn’t mean they cannot simplify processes and business systems.

That was among the key messages from a panel discussion by SAP and some of its most innovative customers and partners at this year’s SAPPHIRE NOW conference highlighting what’s powering the next economic revolution for aerospace and defense companies.

The top five presentations included insights into how high-performing companies display the following attributes:

1. Improve Employee Engagement with Continuous Learning

Companies trying to attract and retain top engineering talent need to build a culture of continuous learning, Jennifer Anglehart, global manager of talent acquisition for B/E Aerospace, said during her SAPPHIRE NOW session.

B/E Aerospace, which manufactures cabin interior products for commercial and military aircraft, never had a program to prepare its employees to advance
within the company. Anglehart uses SuccessFactors™ software from SAP to create, deliver, measure, and evaluate corporate learning programs. B/E Aerospace has
added four of these programs to develop corporate leaders, individual contributors, supervisors and team leads, and managers and directors.

The training has been so successful that 70% of the employees who completed B/E Aerospace’s emerging leader program are now in director-level roles.

2. Use Business Intelligence to Ensure That Projects Work as Planned

Defense contractors rely on earned value systems to manage programs to be completed on cost. At Pratt & Whitney, there are 25,000 monthly tasks or work packages to track, along with the costs associated with each. The engine manufacturer uses Dassian software, built on top of SAP HANA technology, to manage its
estimate at completion (EAC) process.

Dassian enables real-time costing, often updated many times a day, and accounts for actual costs that can lag behind delivery of resources. Pratt & Whitney
realized significant business improvements since switching to Dassian and SAP HANA, said Tom Fanciullo, earned value management system (EVMS) manager,
during his session.

The federal government had been withholding 5% of revenue for EAC payments to Pratt & Whitney but reduced the amount to 2% after seeing the Dassian/SAP HANA system in action.

“Having projects come in on cost and our knowing whether they are or not [on cost] is critical to the government, and this has helped us facilitate that,” Fanciullo
said.

3.  Reinvent Your Business with the Real-Time Power of the Internet of Things

Businesses are undergoing fundamental changes resulting from the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, said manufacturing analyst Robert Parker, a group vice president at IDC, in his session. The shifts are based on three core use cases for manufacturers:

  • Production with networked IoT devices on the shop floor connected to one another and to business systems to improve operations
  • Connected supply chains that integrate IoT devices to create visibility and efficiency
  • Smart products that can deliver maintenance services and new business models based on connectivity

4. Run Simple with SAP S/4HANA, the Next-Generation Business Suite

The latest software platform from SAP is designed to do things better, differently, and to do new things, said Uwe Grigoleit, global head, business development,
SAP S/4HANA,
during the roundtable about this new software.

Peter Nikoletatos, executive director and chief information officer for La Trobe University, said he appreciates how the cloud-based version of SAP S/4HANA
disrupted existing systems and processes. La Trobe, with 27,000 students on six campuses in Australia, replaced a customized, highly inaccurate on-premise
finance system with the cloud-based SAP Simple Finance solution. As a result, Nikoletatos said 72 reports have been consolidated into five “because that’s
what we needed to actually run the business
five accurate, reliable reports and then an element of business intelligence as exception reporting.”

5. Connect Your Business to the World and the World to Your Business

Steve Singh, chief executive officer, Concur Technologies Inc., and a member of the global managing board of SAP SE, has this dream of making five core business
services
identity, payments, security, analytics, and messaging available to any network in the world.

That’s possible now, thanks to technology that can connect most business systems to one another and share information throughout global organizations. As explained in his keynote address, airlines use onboard sensors to monitor maintenance issues and report that information to enterprise resource planning systems that schedule the best time and location for the work to be performed. Parts are automatically sourced to preferred vendors at the best price available.

“When networks are connected, they can drive amazing value automatically and frankly on my behalf. They solve a problem for me without me having to get directly involved. That’s what software is supposed to do for us. That’s the world we see. That’s the world we’re working to create,” said Singh.

Performing an upgrade on a returned item

$

Good Morning,

I have a query regarding how to perform an upgrade when a material is returned.

The scenario is:

1) Material Number 11111 is returned from the customer with serial number 123

2) Material Number 22222 (which is a BOM item on 11111) with serial number 321 is removed and disposed of

3) Material Number 33333 (which is a BOM item on 4444) with serial number 456 replaces the item

4) With the work that has been carried out the unit to be sent back to the customer is now Material Number 44444 with serial number 222

What is the correct process for booking in the returned unit, carrying out the upgrade - ensuring any new materials used are issued and removed from stock - and then shipping the unit back to the customer.

Many Thanks,

AndyMo

The Last Mile for Digital Aviation

Every industry has thought long and hard about how to leverage IoT to create value for customers and to generate new sources of revenue.  Two industries that come to mind are automotive and public sector with concepts such as Connected Car and Smart Cities.  In aviation we often hear the terms Connected Aircraft or Digital Aviation to define the IoT vision for our industry.  This vision has been described on multiple occasions across blogs and articles for the past several years.  The nirvana scenarios describe situations where parts, tools and mechanics sit waiting at a gate to respond to a fault code that was transmitted by an inbound aircraft two hours earlier.  Or a situation where a statistical algorithm running behind the scenes in an aircraft health monitoring system finds correlations in streaming telemetry data (OT) to predict a failure days in advance, avoiding an AOG situation for an airline or a cancelled mission for a military operator.  It seems that there is no disagreement around the potential offered by IoT in the context of Digital Aviation.  The challenge is no longer the technical capability to make these scenarios a reality.  The hardware, software and connectivity are now available to achieve these scenarios in the majority of the cases.  I do believe that we have crossed the tipping point from a technology point of view.  So what are the challenges that hold us back?  The attached document provides some clues.

Confirmation Control for Operations in PP

Hi Experts,

i am stuck with the below situation.

I have a production order with Ten operations. And We have Configured the Confirmation scenarion like that the Quantities for the Current Operation should not get confirmed for a number which is greater the Previous Operation confirmed Qty.

This is working fine. But the Issue is the end user is able to cancel the Previous confirmed operation even though the current operation is confirmed. I need to have the system like that the System should not allow the user to cancel the previous operation for a qty which is less than the Qty for which the current operation is confirmed.

Can i acheive this by customization?

i donot want to go for a development?

pl suggest how this can be done!!

Thanks,

Murthy.

Dear All,

We have implemented SAP MDS 1.6 SP8 and facing a glitch in locking/unlocking the user.

The user has been created as Admin and all the MDS related roles have been assigned to the users in DOE (including admin, tech_Admin, developer, support etc). Still when we logon to the client and sync, then in Administration --> users section, the lock/unlock buttons are disabled.

Whereas same lock/unlock buttons are enabled for the users whom SAP_ALL has been assigned in DOE.

Please suggest, I would be looking forward to hearing from you.
